What not to wear - Gatlinburg edition

My Spring Break vacation was really fun, we headed to Gatlinburg for the third time. This is an interesting place and I believe that the longer I am there I like it less and less but the people watching gets better and better.

It is amazing how many characters you can see and try to figure out if it is 2011 or 1987, hair styles, clothes, all different time periods blend to make an interesting mix that gets crazier as the days go by.

By the time we left I thought I could die since I have seen everything that is to see in life... but there is always 2012!

Finally a place I can call Home

After a few years of moving like a nomad from apartment to apartment, for a total of 7 moves and three states in the past three years ( and 15 moves in three states and two countries in the past 9 years) I have my own house. No more "keep the boxes" for the next move I hope that does not happen in a while. I am loving watching lightning bugs, listening for tree frogs on the backyard and all the cool little projects that are waiting for me.

Back on track

After a year I am back on this blog ready to write a few updates, life has changed in the past 12 months, economic updates, change residency, moved back to Charlotte so life is good down here. This week was odd, last weekend it was 80 degrees, this weekend it is going to rain with a high of 43 degrees. Stupid weather, just make up your mind. Looking forward to the All Star Race 2009 now that i live 10 minutes away from the tack.

ALL STAR RACE

It was just like I hope it would be. This is my third All Star Race and it has become a tradition for me to hang out with really good friends on this day. Have Chef Gordon's classic Low Country Boil, snacks and a Brat for lunch, stay under the sun looking for Rachel, walk through the haulers getting freebies, and enjoying the nice weather.

This time I had to drive 8 hours to have an awesome weekend visiting my close friends from Camp, eating at Red Bowl, Salsaritas and Fishbone. Life is a cycle and I am loving my life in O-H, but maybe sometime I will come back to the Carolinas ( who cast a spell on me that can be broken).

The spring is back

Last week was pretty warm, the trees are blooming and a lot of birds are back on the North Coast so I decided to work on a fun little project. I headed to a lumber yard and pick some cedar wood to build a bird box. The building process was pretty straight forward and because cedar weathers really well I didn't even have to apply any finish to it. I hope some birds enjoy it.

Is winter over?

This has been my first winter on the North Coast and it has been a totally new experience for me. From having to buy a windshield scrapper to drive 4x4 not by choice on 77 and not being able to driver over 35 mph.

It feels like the winter is over, my maple sugaring season is over as well and I only tapped a tree getting 1 quart of very yummy syrup. Today it will be 46 degrees and the rest of the week will be like that.

Let it snow ! ! !

Last Monday it was almost 60 degrees and I thought that spring was just around the corner with beautiful sunny weather. I was a little silly and of course nature came back at me this weekend with the worst snow storm I've seen. Being from Mexico doesn't give me a great record but having 10+ inches of snow is something that you have to see. Cars, and roads are covered. I even went to work with this weather.
Watch a movie, drink some hot chocolate and let;s move Ohio a little south, maybe by Texas would be wonderful.

New Radio

After a few months without radio to fly my planes I finally got my Christmas present. My sife bought the radio for me in November from Horizon Hobby but they decided to delay the release date... only 3 months later! But I finally got it. It's all set, I have two planes ready to fly and now we have 3 inches of snow and at least 9 more coming down in the next day or so. I might build skis for my planes and replace the landing gear ;)

A new reporter is showing the great West Side Market here in Cleveland OH.

New building hobby

I love R/C planes, either scratch building or buying kits, as long as I get to fly them. With this hobby I leaned how to put a kit together and even how to build my own motors.

Since I move farther north the weather has not been very cooperative with remote control planes and I was craving to build something.

To stop the craving I used a board of cheap wood I have in the house and turned it into a small shelf. Woodworking seems to be fun. The only down side is that living at an apartment is a little tough. Sawing and sanding creates lots of dust and wood shavings hard to vaccum.

Semi Official opening

Here we go, on the first semi official post of my blog. Because things change a lot and I like many different things I will figure out if this blog is a good option for me. There will be main topics along this blog: RC planes, Nascar, Environmental Issues, Woodworking and whatever comes along.
